Can pizza dough go bad?

Making pizza dough is a time-consuming task but well worth it because the taste is so much better. But when you are finished making pizza dough and everyone has had enough of pizza (never experienced it myself 😉 ) you might have some pizza dough left. But what can you do with it, do you need to throw it away?

There is no need to throw it away. You can save it for the next 2 days if you are planning to make pizza again.  You can simply store it in the fridge, but you have to package it well preferably airtight. Keep in mind to not store it like this for more than two days.

How do i know if the pizza dough is still good?

The dough tastes and smells musty, and is dry or moldy. You can quickly recognize spoilage by looking, smelling, or tasting careful. If you do not know if it is still good, it is better to make a new batch, because you can get sick from eating bad pizza dough.

How to store pizza dough?

You can store it for up to 2 days in the fridge, but keep in mind you have to package it airtight, if you do not store it right this will be not good for the dough. Note a maximum of 2 days, do you want to store it longer than this put it in the freezer.

Can i freeze pizza dough?

Yes, you can. Freezing pizza dough is very easy. Make a ball of dough for each pizza base and roll it in cling film. You can also use freezer bags or some other airtight vessel to freeze pizza dough. Make sure there is no air in the bag before putting the pizza dough in the freezer, this is a crucial part no air in the bag. Also, make sure that the temperature in your freezer is stable: absolutely crucial. So keep the freezer closed after putting the dough in there so it can freeze properly. And that’s how easy it is to free your leftover pizza dough. Bonus tip: write the date on the bag so you know how old it is, but you probably should do that for everything in your freezer.

One more thing, there is no need to bake the pizza before freezing you can simply freeze the dough balls, save some time and tastes much better.

How long can i store pizza dough?

If you store it in the fridge you can store it for a maximum of 2 days. When you are putting the pizza dough in the freezer you can store it for two to three months maximum.

How to defrost the pizza dough?

Now it is time to get the pizza dough out of the freezer to make some pizza. To do this properly you have to take out the pizza dough about three hours prior to making the pizza. Because it takes two to three hours for the pizza dough to defrost. The defrosting is best done at room temperature, simply place the pizza dough balls in a baking tin and cover it with a damp kitchen towel, making sure it is a clean one. When the dough is defrosted completely it is time to make some pizza, roll the dough, and do the rest of your magic.
